Have you seen the latest video of Facebook? Its title "The Things That Connect Us" captures anything and everything that is present in our lives that connects families, parents to children, husbands to wives, friends, colleagues, organizations, the nation and a single person to the vast universe. Things that people use to connect, to open up ideas, to share, to listen, to get together, to have fun, and to belong.
Facebook's video speaks a metaphor of how these things are like it. Facebook connects people from different walks of life, globally. Looking back 10 years ago, the level of people's connectivity wasn't as heightened as it is now. You don't hear news of love, triumph, defeat, joy, hurt, birth and even death of people you know, close to real time as how it is now using Facebook and other social media sites. Relationships are built and ties are strengthened with simple gestures of "Like" and "Share" even more when comments are left to fire up interactions and engagements.
In this digital era we are in, Facebook has become a staple to our daily tasks. It has become a source of colossal information about our personal, and otherwise, connections. It has become our gate to the outside world, our weaponry to ignorance too.
As a Mom, what struck me is the fact that my children will surely grow up as fine young men. Years from now, they will be out on their own, graduate from college, have a career, fall in love and start a family. It's possible that as I age, I will be weaker, more sensitive and may feel alone knowing these children may no longer run around the house and create beautiful noises, no longer need my hand to hold them going up the stairs, no longer need me to kiss their boo-boos to make the pain go away, no longer share with me their achievements in school, no longer ask me to read them books or teach them their school lessons. When that time comes, this video will be a reminder that no matter how dark life could be, I am not alone. Thanks to Facebook, my children and I will always be connected.

Hi! surely FB has its good and bad side. It so easy now to connect with people without too much effort. We can so easily rebuild friendships or search for important people of your past. However, the use should still be in moderation. Mahirap na may Anti-Cybercrime na. It was nice stopping by!
ReplyDeleteHi Littleyana, I agree with you! the Cyber Crime Law is yet another thing.... :P Thanks for visiting! :)
ReplyDeleteFacebook for me is a blessing. It helped me get in touch with friends and relatives I haven't seen for so long.

ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of facebook but the fact that it really helps to connect people cannot be denied. Thanks to FB for some really essential connections.
ReplyDeleteFacebook really helps us connect. :D
ReplyDeleteI am on facebook everyday but there are still things I keep private. Offline connections matter, too.
ReplyDeleteI also liked the video when I first saw it. Sure enough, I shared it on my wall right away. :) It's really great how it is a little easier to share things and remain connected now.

ReplyDeleteVisiting from CommEx Oct9.
first time to see this FB video... I remember it started as looking for high school classmates...then, college classmates ... and med school classmates for our silver anniversary! Couldn't have made grand reunions without FB!
ReplyDeleteFacebook is like the snail mails of long ago. No matter how we do it, it's the desire to keep in touch that fuels it. Just as we can choose to ignore "friends" in FB. I think that FB works to a certain advantage. But when it comes to family and close friends, I would rather that I hear or learn of those special moments from them in a more intimate way....in person or if not possible, a phone call perhaps....or a long email detailing things hehehe...
ReplyDeleteIt is one of the many features that I appreciate of Facebook. :-)
ReplyDeleteNice video. I really love Facebook!

ReplyDeleteYeah, kudos to facebook for giving us the chance to meet and keep in touch with people despite the distance.
ReplyDeleteFacebook has really become an important part of lives, connecting everyone, bridging the distance.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is indeed reuniting us despite the distance.. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice how Facebook changed our lives. It has made the world smaller and easier to communicate with. It is indeed that and just like the saying goes "no man is an island."
ReplyDeleteI still remember how I dropped friendster for facebook after my hubby introduced it to me... ^ ^,
ReplyDeleteFacebook has it's good and bad side but it really helps a lot to connect people in an instant. :)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that facebook has become one of the best site to connect with your friends and others.-bcb 10/09
ReplyDeleteI have been, too, since 2007. I think some people get hounded by FB because of wrong choice of friends to accept, wrong choice of posts and lack of knowledge with the privacy thingy. Otherwise, I consider it a blessinghehe
ReplyDeletewow! where was I when this video was released? LOL! anyway, thanks for posting this... I am also grateful to facebook. It is one of the greatest breakthroughs! facebook should keep on making videos such as this to continue inspire people to make good use of this amazing technology. :)
