One of the most memorable experience I had during my recent trip to Baguio was dining at Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe in Baguio City.  Thanks to my friends Zimon and Phoebe for letting me discover this garden restaurant secretly tucked in along the very busy Session Road.  One wouldn't even suspect that there's an oasis at the penthouse of an old building called La Azotea where you have to take the old staircase up to its fifth floor to get there.

I took a photo of this artistic sidewalk design (made of marble/tile chips) in front of the La Azotea building as a marker you could look for when you're walking along Session Road.
Flight of stairs you have to take to reach the penthouse where Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe is housed.
Upon entering Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe, the artist heart in me skipped a beat in full appreciation of everything artistic and rustic in the vegetarian restaurant. Based on my research, Oh My Gulay has become a memorial art gallery for Mr. Victor Oteyza, one of the pioneers in Philippine Modern Art in 1950's.  Today it has also become a venue for local performers and art exhibits.  One of the known artists who perform here is Mr. Joey Ayala.

Let me tour you around Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe:
The centerpiece of this oasis artist cafe is the pond and the wooden bridge.
From the stairs, to your right is another staircase going to its mezzanine/second level where a spacious dining area is situated.  I was surprised to learn that it's a mock-up fishing ship (which you will see clearly in some of my photos below).

Here are perfectly matched mis-matched chairs and tables.  Hung on the wall are artworks for sale.
On the first level to the right upon entrance, you will see their native-inspired kitchen where only fresh ingredients are used for cooking healthy and filling meals.
More dining tables at the farther side of the restaurant.  I love that mismatched pieces of furniture can actually complement each other in this type of artistic and rustic restaurant.  Everything was aesthetically pleasing to my senses.
I found a nook near the building's balcony and just by the mock-up ship's rear side.  I could feel the cold breeze even on a sunny afternoon.  I love the artwork hung at my back.
This is the view from where I was seated above.  The front of the ship and the edge of the mezzanine dining floor make a beautiful alley going to the pond.  I never got tired appreciating every nook in Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe.
Here's a better view of the ship.  On top of the ship are more dining tables.  This was where we sat.
Staircase going to the second mezzanine of the restaurant.
Another view of the pond and performance stage/shop from the mezzanine's window.
These handicrafts and paintings are on sale.  These are made by indigenous people behind the Victor Oteyza Community.  The Victor Oteyza Community Art Spaces (VOCAS) was founded by Eric De Guia or Kidlat Tahimik in memorial of Mr. Victor Oteyza, of the "Thirteen Moderns" artist, in 2001.  He dedicated the a space at the La Azotea building to house VOCAS, of which Oteyza was one of the heirs.  Since its establishment, it has kept artistic treasures of Cordillera and Northern Luzon.

NOW, let me take talk about the FOOD, the reason for our being there during our visit. :)  Here's Oh My Gulay's Menu.  Most of their food in their menu are good for sharing.
Anak ng Putaneska is their version of Pasta Putanesca.  Php 130.00 (could be good for two persons)
Oh My Gulay Rice is combination of brown rice (wow healthy!), tofu, egg and vegetables smothered with Mongolian sauce.  Php 140.00 per serving.
Chow-Chow Noodles are made from egg noodles with vegetables sauteed in garlic and special soy sauce.  Only Php 135.00 per serving (serving is good for sharing)
For beverage, we ordered their special Dayap Iced Tea and Limonda, sorry, wasn't able to take photos of our drinks.

The service is a bit slow, but for me, it actually works quite well for waiting customers.  While waiting, you could buy some time to appreciate the whole place, take pictures and marvel at the 360 degree beauty of Oh My Gulay restaurant, which for me is worth visiting when you're in Baguio.  I have not seen any restaurant that has the same concept and ambiance as this in Metro Manila.  Plus knowing its history and the advocacy behind the establishment, you could feel like you are part of its story.

The food was served hot and you know that they are made of fresh ingredients.  Every meal we ordered tasted good and were filling.  Dining here was a great experience and one that wouldn't be easily forgotten.  Here's a photo of us, the aftermath of our aesthetically and physiologically filling lunch.
I will never grow tired of visiting Baguio and I am happy that during my last trip, I was able to discover Oh My Gulay Artist Cafe.

Wow sis! The place is so cool! :-) It's worth the wait for food kasi ang ganda ng lugar. Malilibang ka sa mga paintings and cozy surrounding. I like the rustic scene. Madalang na lang kasi sa mga restos ang ganito ka-antique yet pleasing to the eyes. :-) Thanks for posting this.
