Today, we celebrate our "monthsary."  Yes, we still celebrate our awesome togetherness month by month.  It may not be as grand as how we did it a few years back before having our children, but we still remember to compete on who remembers or greets one first with a "Happy Monthsary, I love you with ALL my HEART!"

Looking back at how we started, how we survived some hurdles and still maintained a healthy bond, I definitely could attest that a lot of WORK needs to be done to ensure a strong and loving relationship.

Bonding with your partner is one of the basic relationship-builder strategies that you could do.  You and your partner may be busy with a lot of things - work, kids, extra-curricular activities- but each of you should find time to nourish your relationship.  There are more than a hundred ideas for mighty bonding with your partner, but I'd like to share some which are working for us.

Bonding Ideas With Your Partner
  1. Talk -Make sure you talk whenever you can snatch some time away from work, from home responsibilities and from any other activities.  You can talk about how our day went, from big issues at work to as trivial as office romances and showbiz gossips.
  2. Laugh - Let me share that we can be serious and goofy when we converse.  We never run out of things to talk about because we inject a lot of jokes and silly topics in our conversation matched with animated faces and hilarious dance moves.  In these moments, we LAUGH!  We laugh until we don't hear each other's laughing voice anymore, until our tummies get so cramped and until tears come out of our eyes.  Laughter binds us and keeps us insanely fascinated at each other.
  3. Eat - Apart from eating together with the whole family, make sure to still make time to dine out alone.  It could be at a fancy restaurant (if there's something to celebrate) or at a simple kebab or neighboring sizzling place.  As long as you're together, you're good.
  4. Drink - Remember when you were still good friends or when you were still on the dating stage and you went to bars to drink or house parties to celebrate an occasion?  You can still do that with your partner! It doesn't have to be hard partying like before, once in a while and in moderation is ok.
  5. Movie Date - Watching movies on big screen may remind you of those times when you were still on courting stage.  Trust me, it could still bring you the romantic "shivers-to-the-spines" kind of feeling.  Plus the movie could be another topic you could discuss or debate about.
  6. DVD Marathon - If going out on a movie date is not possible, you could schedule a DVD or home-movie watching at night when the kids are already sleeping or on weekend afternoons when the kids are taking a nap.   Plus, it's more convenient to cuddle at the comforts of your home.
  7. Tight Hugs - Boy I love hugging!  Other than being physically connected during hugs, it's very therapeutic.  It instantly takes away the stresses you feel, the pain you endure, the sadness in your heart, the disappointments of the day and even the frustrations that life has to offer.  A hug says a lot of things without talking.  We love to hug.. really really tight! :)
  8. Instant Digital or Mobile Messaging - You could still be bonded with your partner even when away from each other by keeping in touch through Facebook messaging, mobile SMSing, emailing or calling each other.  A short message of "I Love Yous" or "Take Cares" are all it takes to stay connected throughout the away times.
  9. Travel - If budget permits, and if there's an occasion (like anniversaries) go out of town.  It could become a bonding retreat, an escape from the real world, a romantic getaway or perhaps another honeymoon!  Being alone together and far away from everything rejuvenates your relationship.  New memories are built which both of you will talk, laugh or reminisce about when you grow older.
  10. Play - No elaboration needed. =) Play as much as you can to keep fit, stay young, happy and in love!
How about you?  What are your bonding ideas with your partner?

  3. Sweet! We also laugh a lot and we both love to eat! We don't have as much movie dates as we used to but we still try not to see movies without each other - as much as possible. It really takes effort to do something that both will enjoy but we do our best. :)

  4. I also love hugging! Even more than kissing. There's just something so comforting about hugging. :-) I miss watching movies with my hubby. I suppose that's a luxury we cannot afford nowadays with little children.
