Moving Out of the Metro: What to Expect When Settling Down in the Province
Moving out of your hometown or the place where you’ve lived for years can be scary and exciting; it’s like attending the first day at school as a new transferee, and you don’t know anyone. If you’ve lived in the metro for years and are now planning to settle down in the province, you may face some exciting challenges that are part of any moving out and moving in process.
To equip you with what
you can expect when you start planning to move to one of the provinces in the
Philippines, here are some of the challenges you may encounter and things to
consider. Knowing these will help you adjust better to your new environment.
Finding the Perfect House

Finding a new home in
the province can be a challenge. To be sure about what you’re putting your
money into, it is best to visit the property yourself instead of relying on
what you see in the pictures sent to you by the seller. Let’s say you are
interested in buying a house
and lot for sale in Iloilo City. If you
can’t fly to Iloilo to check the property yourself, you can always ask a
trustworthy relative or friend who resides in that province to check it out for
you. You can also ask the seller for a detailed virtual tour of the property.
Another option is to
build your home from the ground up. This can be more challenging since it is
ideal that you are there on the construction site to make sure that your home
is built according to your preferences.
Getting Familiar with Your New
Community

Aside from your new
home, it would help if you also familiarize yourself with your new community.
You may do this by frequently visiting the province you will move into before
your big move. You have to familiarize yourself with where the essential establishments
are, including the market, malls, schools, hospitals, and offices.
If you’ll be living in a
subdivision, familiarize yourself with the village’s gates, amenities, and even
shortcut roads if there are any. If you are moving into a condo, familiarize
yourself with the condo’s amenity area, fire exit, parking lots, lobby,
drop-off points, and others.
Knowing How to Commute

As the new people on the
block, you should know different ways how to go from point A to point B. You
can do this by asking people around or consulting the map. When settling down
in a new area, the last thing you want is to be fined for traffic violations
because you weren’t familiar with the place.
Aside from driving, it
is also recommended to learn how to commute going to essential places in your
neighborhood as an alternative when you can’t drive your car. You’ll need to
figure out the modes of transportation available, fares, and different routes.
Looking for Schools for Your Kids

For families moving from the metro to the province with kids still studying in school, finding schools can be challenging, especially if the province has few or too many to choose from. In that case, you can allocate a day to visit the school in person (if allowed) to see if the school will be perfect for your kids. You may even consult with them on what they’re looking for in a school, what after-school activities will interest them, and others.
Aside from the quality
of education, tuition fee, and safety of your child, you can also consider the
travel time from home to school so that they too can adjust their schedule
accordingly. Ideally, you’ll want a school that is relatively near your house
so your children won’t have to spend
Finding New Sources of Income

Unless you are a digital nomad, moving to a new place means finding a new job or a source of income. Before making the big move, it’s ideal to look for employment opportunities in your new community or find ways you can start a business.
Let’s say you will move
into Cebu. One ideal source of income you can invest in is buying an apartment for sale in Cebu. You can live in one of your apartment building's units
and lease the remaining units to other families and individuals who want to
live in the area. If the province you’ll be moving into is a popular tourist
destination or business hub, you can also use your property for commercial
purposes.
Creating Friendships

As the new kid on the block, you have to overcome another challenge when you move to the province is to find and meet new friends. Since provincial life is more laid-back, you can always find time to get to know your neighbor and other community members.
Lucky for you, most people in the province are hospitable and welcoming, so don’t hesitate to give them your warm smile and greetings! On the day you move in, your neighbors might even welcome you with some snacks, homemade meals, and other small gifts. These simple gestures can start conversations with people with whom you may form lasting friendships.
