3 Steps To Buffed Nails at No Cost

As a busy mom, do you still find some ME-Time and indulge in spa or salon services once in a while?  In my previous post regarding 10 Me-Time Ideas for Busy Moms, my most favorite is mani-pedicure at home or at the salon.

Living here in Manila makes everything you need accessible.  We have more than 20 salons nearby where I could easily have my regular hand and foot treat.  But even having said that, the question is, do I find time to squeeze it in my busy schedule?  Yes I do... but....  The next question is, does my budget permit it? Honestly, sometimes no.

Good thing, I found an inexpensive nail buffer at Saizen, where everything is only P85.00!  Great deal for at most 6 months of use (12 uses or twice a month) you save P600.00 to P1,440.00 (manicure cost of P50.00 to P120.00.)

So if you are like me, who has the time, but sometimes with a tight budget or none at all, here are three easy steps to get those nails pretty and shiny at no cost.

But before starting with the buffing part, make sure you remove your nail polish, if you still have them, trim your nails until desired length and bring the nail buffer with you.

The nail buffer usually comes in three colors.  The one I bought has the Blue (roughest side), White (second roughest) and the Gray one (the smooth side.)

STEP 1: Managing RidgesOn the top surface of your nails, use the roughest side.  Buff each nail using the same direction.  This step takes care of your nails' ridges.  Don't do more than 5 strokes each nail if might make your nails too thin or weak.

STEP 2: Smooth Out Smaller Ridges
Use the second roughest side of the nail buffer.  Just like the previous step, go through each nail using the same direction.  This smooths out the nails' scratches brought by the first step and gets rid of smaller ridges.  Use up to 8 strokes each nail only.

STEP 3: Make Them Shine
This is the last and most exciting part, the shining, shimmering, and splendid step.  Use the smoothest part of the nail buffer.  Buff each nail until your desired gloss.  You may use up to 12 strokes to make your nails highly glossy as if you've applied a natural transparent polish.

My Salon-Like Glossy Nails
After doing steps 1 to 3 I instantly got glossy nails.  The shine could last a week or more.  This practically saves me hundreds of pesos I usually spend when going to a salon to have my nails done.  Sharing with you my nails' before and after photos.

BEFORE: Dull-looking nails
AFTER: Healthy, glossy and salon-like buffed nails
Isn't nail buffer one of the coolest inventions ever?  Do you have nail-care tips too?  Please do share it with me!

  9. Saizen is also a favorite place I'd like to visit leisurely in the hope of finding a good buy! We once got our Christmas giveaway in that same stores and got practical items such as liquid hand soap, sets of pens and highlighters.

The need to take care of our nails is essential because this is one of the most exposed body parts that other people see first. Great idea! :)

  23. ohhh Nail Buffing can be quite addictive! I was turned to this via the movie Clueless, if I remember correctly. I'd buy a buffer and have it in my bag at all times. When I'm bored, I buff. I loved how it made my cuticles look nice. But I eventually grew out of it. I'm into nail polish now, but it would be nice to still have a buffer handy for days when you just want naked nails. hehe. :)

  28. HI Vera! I remember that "Clueless" days, I was so into buffing as well at that time. Buffers were available and popular that time. For some reason, nawala siya sa market or wasn't as visible anymore. I also love nail polishes except when they chip off easily. I keep my hand nails bare na lang and my toe nails polished. =)

  33. I used to buff my nails in college, when nail polish isn't allowed. But now, I got too lazy. LOL Anyway, also try putting hair conditioner on your nails while bathing. It moisturizes the cuticles. The idea's not mine, though, just read it somewhere, tried it, and have been doing it ever since. ;)
