Celebrating Macky's Birthday Through an Outreach
Hello loves! How was the long weekend for you? Ours were quite full, add to that the scheduled days off of our household helper. I didn't want her to go off for an two nights, but it was her birthday week too. So even if it was going to be a busy weekend (due to Macky's birthday activities) I allowed her, she deserved a birthday break too. Anyways, this post is dedicated to the love of my life and I want to share how different his celebration was.
In the years Macky and I have been together, this year's birthday celebration was different. I was very joyful when he decided to give back and do a simple outreach to the less fortunates. We didn't choose any organizations nor shelters because we think, there are many donors lined up already for them, which is a very good thing. What we targeted were the Lolos/Lolas on the street, the scavengers, the street children, and taong grasas. Why them? Help is not always available to them compared to those already in the shelters put up by governments or NGOs.
We prepared simple lunch packs which includes: the tastiest fried chicken and rice (cooked by Macky's dad), one medium-sized banana, and juice in tetra pack. Before we set off (at around 11am just in time for lunch) Macky and his friend already identified slum areas near our place to go around. We decided to bring the kids with us, because it's always better to teach compassion and selflessness by example. We didn't stay in one place for fear that we'll be flocked even by people who aren't really in dire need compared to others.
I cannot describe how fulfilling, joyous, and touching the feeling was for all of us. So let me show you through these photos.
Wes said while handing the banana to a recipient from the car's window, "Mommy, there are so many hungry peoples... I don't think these are enough po." Yes, they aren't enough, but we hope we could be doing this more often so that in anyway we can, we help make our world a better and caring place.
We sometimes forget how blessed we really are, yet we complain endlessly or wish we had more when on the other side of our materialistic and selfish world, some don't even have any of the basics: Food, Shelter and Clothing.
So to my often-misunderstood-and-ridiculously-judged better half, the kids and I are very proud of you. We're proud of your courage to face others with head up high to fight for what's right, for your unending selflessness, your leadership, your BIG HEART, and your love for God who's been blessing us with so much even if we sometimes feel we don't deserve it.

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAHAL! Many more healthy and successful years ahead of you! We loooooove you with all our hearts!!!

Happy Birthday to your hubby! Your family is indeed a blessing to them.
ReplyDeleteHello @Aliz Maganis, sorry late reply. Maraming salamat sa iyong pagbati! Yes, sometime we're too self-consumed, that we forget others. :) May we all be blessed so we could be a blessing to others! :)
ReplyDeleteMaraming salamat @Nheng! :)
